Every summer, both our campers and staff step into experiences that shape them into stronger, more confident leaders. Through daily activities, group living, and shared adventures, camp becomes the perfect training ground for leadership that lasts far beyond the summer.
For campers, leadership starts with small moments. It may be as simple as encouraging a bunkmate, helping out during an activity, or stepping up during a team challenge. These moments build confidence and teach campers that leadership doesn’t always mean being the loudest voice. It’s about responsibility, empathy, and knowing when to support others. As campers grow through our program, they have the chance to take on more responsibility, whether that’s being a team captain, serving as role models for younger campers, or participating in our Leadership In Training program. By the end of summer, they return home with a stronger sense of independence, communication skills, and the ability to work with others.
For our counselors and staff, camp is a unique opportunity to practice real-world leadership every day. They guide campers through challenges, solve problems on the fly, and create a safe, supportive environment for everyone in their care. These responsibilities require patience, decision-making, adaptability, and a lot of heart.Staff often leave Circle F saying they gained more than just a summer job. They gained experience that prepares them for careers, relationships, and leadership roles in all areas of life.
What makes Circle F special is that leadership development happens naturally, not in a classroom or through lectures, but in the everyday rhythms of camp life. Whether it’s campers learning to cheer on their peers or staff guiding a group through a new activity, everyone here has the chance to grow as a leader. And the impact doesn’t end when summer does. Campers return to their schools with more confidence to take on leadership roles. Staff carry their skills into future jobs and communities.
