As Jack cautiously climbs up the half pipe, he confidently says to himself “I’ve got this!” He sets his skateboard on the edge. As he looks down, his perspective on the height of the ramp changes. What once stood a mere 44 inches tall, now seems like the summit of Everest, which is a long ways away from our Florida home.
After taking a few deep breaths, he places his feet in the ready position. He takes a moment to wipe the sweat from his brow, and shakes his hands and arms loose to stay limber. “Stomp your foot down, bend your knees, and stay over your board.” Jack repeats this to himself over and over again. The other kids at camp show their support by shouting “You got this!” and “I believe in you”, or “Remember to commit”.
Jack leans forward, and drops down the ramp. Whether he rides away clean, or if he falls, he has already started the journey to becoming a successful individual. Boys and girls at Circle F Dude Ranch learn the ultimate level of discipline and the rewards for not giving up. They’re inspired when they see other riders do amazing things. When they realize it’s not as easy as it looks, that’s when they start to have second thoughts. Skateboarding at summer camp can be a fun but real challenge for any child. Our Cricle F camp counselors and other summer camp skateboarders are always ready to encourage and reinforce the message that these things take time, dedication and hard work.
The reward is not only landing the trick, but developing a new skill along with an “I can do it” mindset. Kids, you’ll be more dedicated, a harder worker, and you’ll get to embrace failure and learn from it, when you come to our summer camp. You’ll even become an inspiration to others around you.
Skateboarding is one of the most popular extreme sports at Circle F Dude Ranch summer camp. Also, it is one of the most requested of all the summer camp activities. It is offered during summer & spring break sleepaway camps.
Our skate park features all the necessities a skateboarding enthusiast could need. We have a half pipe, kicker ramps, rails, and ledges. We also have skateboards and all the safety equipment in all sizes: helmets, knee & elbow pads, and wrist guards. Summer campers are more than welcome to bring their own items if they choose.
Skateboarding at Circle F summer camp is an amazing experience because of how well everyone is treated and cared for at the activity period. Campers of any age, size, skill, or style are more than welcome to participate. Both staff riders and older campers will help younger campers with their pads, safe skateboarding techniques, and will help critique their styles of riding.
Everyone supports each other when they’re having a hard time learning a new trick. Kids push each other to get better. They offer to fill up each other’s water bottles to stay hydrated when it’s hot out. They check on other riders when they fall. This community minded behavior eventually branches out from skateboarding to the rest of the world.
